It's a visual treat that belies the rather mushy title. But despite the highly stylized sheen, Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay is a bit rough at the edges, though we can't call it disappointing at all. In fact, it's just what it's supposed to be — an out-and-out entertainer, mindless in parts, but worth its share of whistles and claps.
Director Ashok Pati deserves a pat on the back for keeping the story-line together despite some yawning gaps here and there. But we guess the audience is too well acquainted with such story lines to bat an eyelid. They'll surely fill up the gaps from memory.

The music, too, is foot-tapping and the song sequences, visual delights. Kudos to composers Savvy, Akassh and Hridoy Khan, choreographers Adil Shaikh and Jayesh Pradhan and DoP J Yuvaraj for that.
But at least two songs — Calling bell and Tumi Jodi — hit us from nowhere. For one, Calling bell is supposedly recorded by Abhi to be shown to Bhumi to confuse and irritate her. But surprise, surprise! The song also has Bhumi in it! How, one wonders. Then, at the height of tension, when Abhi is helping Bhumi elope with Joy, and half an angry village is after them, Tumi Jodi hits you in the gut.
The story-line, in some parts, seems to be a well-boiled khichdi of Main Hoon Na and Chennai Express, mixed with a pinch of quantum salt — one that makes it jump suddenly from A to B, leaving the audience in the lurch. And if A is a hill station in India and B is a village, Pratapgarh, in Bangladesh, one kind of itches to know how Bhumi suddenly reaches B, while her two lovers are busy fighting on rooftops back in A. Then again, there is that quantum leap when Abhi 'kidnaps' the village goon, Boloram's ( Supriyo Dutta ) son, Raja (Raja Dutta). A, Abhi is on a train with Bhumi, and B, he hands her over to Boloram and warns him that if she is harmed, his son, too, will bite the dust.
Yeh jump kuch hajam nahi huyi. But we shouldn't forget that Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay is meant to be a commercial romcom. It has not only done justice to that genre, but has done it in style. The songs are beautifully choreographed and the locales used are tantalizing. The actors, too, do justice to their characters. Principal Charandas ( Kharaj Mukherjee ), Bhumi's father, Choudhury ( Misha Sawdagar ), and Boloram live their parts to the hilt. As for the leads, Ankush carries off his stylized avatar quite well, while Subhashree expresses her inner turmoil towards the climax with ease.
Bikram, too, strikes the right chord as a 'grey' second lead. Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay gives you the chance to de-stress big time, play a red piano on the Great Rann of Kutch or ogle at leggy beauties and hunks — all for the price of one ticket. Know of a better deal?
